Agrokredit u themelua në vitin 1999 nga qeveria shqiptare me emrin “Fondi i Financimit të Zonave Malore – FFZM” si një institucion jo fitimprurës. Ky fond kishte si qëllim të mbështeste zhvillimin ekonomik në zonat malore dhe rurale. Në vitin 2002, FFZM u transformua në një Institucion Financiar Jo Bankë, duke u pozicionuar si një aktor i rëndësishëm në financimin e ekonomive lokale. Më vonë, në vitin 2009, kompania u bë një shoqëri aksionere me emrin “Shoqëría e Parë Financiare e Zhvillimit – FAFDC.” Në vitin 2019, kompania ndryshoi emrin në Agrokredit, duke reflektuar përkushtimin e saj ndaj financimit të sektorëve ruralë, suburbanë dhe turistikë. Sot, Agrokredit operon në 90% të territorit të Shqipërisë, me një rrjet prej 30 zyrash dhe 133 punonjës.
