Almas Artesanas is a Colombian platform that connects artisan communities with contemporary design and global markets through co-creation, cultural traceability, and territorial innovation. Born from a research initiative at Universidad Libre, Almas has evolved into a model that bridges academia, public institutions, and the private sector to strengthen artisan value chains from the ground up, not by replacing traditional knowledge, but by elevating it into more sophisticated and competitive contexts. Our work is deeply rooted in the Colombian Pacific, a region of extraordinary cultural richness and biodiversity, while articulating a network of approximately 300 artisans across the country. Through this ecosystem, we develop handcrafted collections that integrate ancestral knowledge, natural fibers, and contemporary design. Our model covers the full value chain, from co-design and fiber advisory to sample development, artisan community curation, production, quality control, packaging, and export documentation. This integrated approach ensures consistency, authenticity, and high-value outcomes at every stage. Over the years, we have developed collections and collaborations that have successfully reached international markets including the United States, Panama, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Venezuela, and Spain, connecting Colombian craftsmanship with global audiences. At the same time, we are building systems that integrate co-creation and traceability, enabling each piece to carry not only aesthetic value, but also a clear connection to its origin, materials, processes, and cultural authorship.
