The ESF8 Portal was born after Hurricane Gustav in 2008 out of the frustration of using multiple, independent software tools that covered only partial needs to manage a large scale emergency. We built the ESF 8 Portal based on the first hand experiences of Louisiana's response during Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Issac.
