The Native Land Conservancy, Inc. (NLC) is the first Native American-led land conservation group established east of the Mississippi. Our mission is to honor, protect, and restore land and water for the four-legged, the two-legged, the winged, and the finned wherever possible. We do so by focusing on the perpetuation and preservation of Indigenous cultural lifeways through land rescue. Currently, four tribal groups are represented on our Board of Directors. The NLC is a national 501(c)(3). To date, 258 acres of land we hold the deed to are under our direct care, we hold Conservation Easements over 811 acres of private and municipal lands, safeguarding these landscapes from development and maintaining their ecological integrity; and we carry Cultural Respect Easements across 460 acres, recognizing and protecting the enduring cultural, spiritual, and historical relationships between Indigenous peoples and these lands.
