Organ Vida, an international festival of contemporary photography, is an annual festival which has been promoting and researching modern photography disciplines in Croatia and on the international scene since its foundation in 2009. Organ Vida is an independent photography festival. Our mission and goal is not just the photographic education of our audience through lectures about contemporary photographers and workshops, but also involvement in the broader socio-political context of our everyday lives. Our wish is to promote critical thinking through tackling everyday problems in our social, political and personal surroundings which can be communicated through photography. Every year the festival has a certain theme, and so far we covered “Black and white photography”, “Movement”, “About People”, “Documentary photography” and “Spaces”. This year’s festival theme will be “Reflections”. The main part of the festival is the finalists’ exhibition which, after being displayed in Zagreb, goes on tour in other Croatian or international cities. Another part of the festival are also foreign lectures, conferences, panels, artist talks, creative workshops, introductions of artists and their work, guest lectures and concerts. The festival emphasizes collaboration and networking between local and international artists, and the exchange of knowledge and experiences between foreign and local visitors and guests. The platform through which Organ Vida connects artists, institutions, associations and collectives spans over 80 countries. So far, we had over 150 artists showcase their work. The festival is supported by the City office for Culture, Education and Sports, Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia and various other educational and cultural institutions with whom the festival cooperates.
