Project Aamhi is a grassroots NGO pioneering a community-led circular economy in coastal Maharashtra. Based in Nandgaon, Murud, we integrate environmental restoration with social equity to create a waste-free future. In Marathi, "Aamhi" means "We." Supported by the Alibaug Solid Waste Management Association (ASWM), we have developed a scalable, scientific model for rural waste management. Our Impact at a Glance: 500+ Tons of Waste Extracted: We have successfully diverted over half a million kilograms of non-biodegradable waste from beaches, mangroves, and landfills. 75% Women Workforce: We are a women-centric movement. Three-quarters of our team is comprised of local rural women, providing them with financial independence and leadership roles. Hyper-Local Focus: Our core operations in the village of Nandgaon (Murud) serve as a model for sustainable rural development across the Raigad district. Our Core Pillars: Collection: Systematic clearing of solid waste from public spaces and households. Segregation: Sorting waste into 12+ categories to ensure maximum recycling efficiency and zero-waste-to-landfill. Livelihood Empowerment: Transforming "waste picking" into formal, dignified employment for our Safai Sathis.
