National Bureau of Insurance (NBI): The insurance institutions licensed to operate motor vehicle liability insurance in Switzerland jointly form and operate the National Bureau of Insurance (Art. 74ff SVG). The statutory tasks of the NBI consist of covering accidents caused by foreign motor vehicles and trailers in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. In addition, the NBI operates the National Information Centre and coordinates the conclusion of frontier insurance policies. National Guarantee Fund (NGF): The insurance institutions licensed to operate motor vehicle liability insurance in Switzerland jointly form and operate the National Guarantee Fund (Art. 76ff SVG). The statutory tasks of the NGF consist of covering damage caused in Switzerland and Liechtenstein by unidentified or uninsured motor vehicles and trailers. In addition, the NGF covers damage that cannot be covered by insolvent motor vehicle liability insurance companies.
