The ROC is a nonprofit trade school whose mission is to provide technical construction skills and job readiness training, mentorships, paid apprenticeships and permanent job placement for students attending high schools in under-served areas of Mecklenburg County. The ROC is now fully integrated into five (5) Title-1 high schools (West Meck, Harding, Chambers, Garinger and West Charlotte) in addition to Phillip O. Berry. The ROC addresses major community needs by increasing upward mobility for at-risk minority teens, preparing them to fill major employment gaps within the construction industry at a level that provides family sustaining wages and spurs promotion. We provide 3 core services to our students which all align with the needs of major construction employers. A. Construction Skills Training – The ROC Program provides detailed technical training in electrical and HVAC technology, advanced carpentry, apartment maintenance and construction management. B. Job Readiness Training / Support Services – The ROC equips our students with all the soft skills necessary to succeed on a job site, including Reliability, Attitude, Focus and Communication. C. Apprenticeships / Permanent Job Placements / Retention -The ROC delivers skilled and motivated young graduates to top notch companies with ongoing follow-up and supports. We have over 35 Construction Industry Partners who routinely hire ROC graduates, most who have been with the same company for over 2 years.
