VBZ behartigt de economische belangen van ongeveer 110 kleine, middelgrote en grote lid-bedrijven in de Nederlandse zoetwarenindustrie (koek, snoep, chocolade, zoutjes en noten), die samen meer dan 90% van de sectoromzet in Nederland vertegenwoordigen. De branchevereniging treedt op als dienstverlener, informatiemakelaar en probleemoplosser voor haar leden. Naast lobby rond maatschappelijke thema’s – zoals suikertaks, obesitas, duurzame energie en zwerfafval – zet VBZ haar expertise in op het gebied van CAO (inclusief onderhandelen met sociale partners), pensioen, voedselveiligheid, opleidingsmogelijkheden en arbeidsveiligheid. Behalve lobby op nationaal niveau vindt dit ook plaats op Europees en internationaal niveau. De branchevereniging is bovendien de spreekbuis van de Nederlandse zoetwarenindustrie richting het grote publiek en de media.
