Woonstichting De Marken is al decennia actief als woondienstverlener in het landelijke gebied van de gemeente Deventer. De huidige organisatie is ontstaan door de fusie tussen Stichting Woningbouw Bathmen (SWB) en Woningstichting De Marken per 1 januari 2006. Het bezit omvat circa 1170 woningen. Zo blijven we een zelfstandige, kleine verhuurder in het buitengebied van de gemeente Deventer. De geschiedenis van De Marken gaat nog verder terug. De eerste bouwactiviteiten dateren uit 1916 in het buurtschap Frieswijk terwijl in 1920 de woningstichting "Beter Wonen" werd opgericht ten behoeve van woningbouw in het dorp Colmschate. Tussen 1953 en 1996 werden alle activiteiten ondergebracht in het Woningbedrijf van de toenmalige gemeente Diepenveen. In 1996 is het woningbedrijf geprivatiseerd en ging verder als Woningstichting De Marken.
