An exclusive wilderness lodge based in Hoedspruit is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Field Guide to deliver exceptional interpretive experiences to guests. The ideal candidate will have a deep love for the bush, a strong conservation ethos, and the ability to create engaging, educational, and memorable wildlife encounters.
This role is best suited to an energetic, guest-focused professional who thrives in a Big 5 environment and is committed to high standards of hospitality and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct morning, afternoon, and occasional night game drives Lead guided bush walks where qualified to do so Deliver informative, engaging, and interactive wildlife interpretations Ensure guest safety at all times during activities Share in-depth knowledge of fauna, flora, ecology, and local conservation efforts Assist with lodge hosting duties when required Maintain vehicles and guiding equipment to high operational standards Contribute to conservation and environmental awareness initiatives Support overall lodge operations as part of a collaborative team Requirements Nature Site Guide qualification (minimum NQF Level 2. Valid First Aid certificate Valid driver’s licence and PDP Rifle competency (if conducting walking safaris) Strong communication skills in English (additional languages advantageous) Previous guiding experience in a lodge environment preferred. Advantage: Candidates with a strong interest or specialisation in birding will be highly regarded. A proven ability to identify and interpret bird species and behaviours will add significant value to the guest experience.
