Job description

Job Overview: Primoris Fleet is seeking a skilled and dependable Heavy Equipment & Fleet Mechanic to join our heavy civil construction team in Abilene, TX. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting a wide range of heavy construction equipment, diesel machinery, commercial trucks, and company pickup trucks.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to work independently in both shop and field environments. Assemble, set up, adjust, lubricate, maintain and repair all types of construction equipment. Troubleshoot, service, repair and maintain equipment assets including vehicles, trailers, aerials and yellow iron.

Functional Requirements Repair equipment such as internal combustion engines, air compressors, pumps, etc. Perform the duties of a welder in the repair of equipment. Must possess ability to utilize various electronic diagnostic equipment and make minor and major repairs to electrical, hydraulic, air conditioning, gasoline and diesel systems.

Diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on heavy civil construction equipment including dozers, excavators, loaders, graders, rollers, and skid steers Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, transmissions, and braking systems Maintain and repair commercial trucks, trailers, and company pickup trucks Perform routine service such as oil changes, filter replacements, brake repairs, and tire maintenance Employee will be expected to work overtime as the company determines based upon job requirements.

Individual selected must be able to work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision. Candidate must be highly motivated and customer service driven. Demands of this position will change often and work assignment will be dynamic. Qualification Standards One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level).

Job site safety requirements as required by the client (long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.) Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)

Physical Requirements Must comply with company’s drug and alcohol abuse policy. Must be able to pass physical examination, pre-employment if necessary, and as required by the company. Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc. Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.)

Able to carry 50 lbs. of tool and/or materials. It is recommended to get assistance to lift items over 50 lbs. Check with your project supervisor or project safety director. Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time. Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.)

Must be able to work while wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment, when required. Company Overview: Primoris Heavy Civil provides highway, port, airfield, rail and marine (intermodal transportation) construction services to private commercial and industrial clients as well as governmental entities such as the Department of Transportation and the US Army Corps of Engineers.

Heavy Civil is comprised of six operating units that include North Louisiana Operations, South Louisiana Operations, Texas Operations, HMA Paving Operations, Concrete Paving Operations, and the Infrastructure Rehabilitation Unit.
