Job description
The Backup and Storage Administrator is responsible for ensuring the availability, integrity, security, and recoverability of enterprise data across on-premise and cloud platforms. The expected result of this role is resilient, cost-effective backup and object storage services that meet business recovery objectives, regulatory requirements, and operational SLAs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
& DUTIES
- Design, implement, administer, and maintain enterprise backup solutions using Commvault, including backup, restore, replication, and disaster recovery workflows across physical, virtual, and cloud workloads. -Administer and optimize object storage platforms including AWS S3 and Cloudian S3, ensuring durability, performance, lifecycle management, and access controls. -Monitor backup jobs, storage utilization, capacity trends, and recovery success rates; proactively remediate failures and performance issues. -Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, security, and application teams to integrate backup and storage solutions into new and existing platforms. -Automate operational tasks using scripting and cloud-native tools; document standards, architectures, and operational runbooks. -Develop, maintain, and assess backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures; support audit requests and compliance requirements (e.g., retention, immutability, encryption). POSITION REQUIREMENTS -Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (preferred; equivalent experience acceptable). -5+ years of experience in enterprise backup and storage administration. -Firsthand experience with Commvault -Strong experience with AWS S3, including lifecycle policies, IAM, encryption, and cost optimization. -Experience supporting hybrid cloud and on-prem environments. Preferred -Experience with Cloudian S3 or other S3-compatible object storage platforms -Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, Commvault certification Physical Abilities / Demands -Ability to support after-hours maintenance windows and possible on-call rotations -Ability to work extended periods at a computer and respond to incidents as required KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES -Ability to make technical and operational decisions that directly impact data availability, recovery time objectives (RTO), recovery point objectives (RPO), and storage costs, requiring a high level of judgment and attention to detail. -Capable of diagnosing complex, multi-layered issues spanning backup software and storage platforms. -Provide independent analysis, prioritization, and execution with minimal oversight, while aligning with architectural standards and business requirements. -Ability to operate independently, managing workload and priorities with limited supervision. -Provide technical guidance to peers and project teams, communicating best practices with for Enterprise-wide storage and data protection -Solves both routine operational issues and complex, high-impact problems such as failed recoveries, capacity shortfalls, and cross-platform integration challenges. -Improve reliability and efficiency through automation, process improvement, and forward-looking storage and backup strategies.
