Job description
Role Overview : You will lead a high-performing team of mechanical engineers in the design, development, and enhancement of automated semiconductor test handlers and thermal sub-systems. This role is critical in driving the transition from design concepts to high-volume manufacturing, ensuring that the company’s precision motion systems and thermal technologies meet the "Zero Defect" requirements of the global automotive and industrial semiconductor markets.
This role also ensures robust mechanical design, high reliability, manufacturability, cost efficiency, and compliance with semiconductor industry standards, while driving continuous improvement, innovation, and team excellence. Roles and responsibilities : Lead and mentor a team of Mechanical Design Engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and accountability.
Manage the department’s resource allocation to support multiple concurrent projects, from New Product Introduction (NPI) to sustaining engineering. Oversee the professional development of the team, ensuring high competency in advanced CAD tools and semiconductor industry standards. Direct the mechanical design of parts, and lead design reviews focused on DFX (Design for Excellence), specifically aiming for ease of manufacturability (DFM), assembly (DFA), and cost-efficiency (DFC).
Act as the primary mechanical engineering interface for the Melaka site, collaborating with Electrical, Software, and Vision teams to deliver integrated automation solutions. Work closely with the Global R&D centers (Germany/USA) to localize and "harden" designs for the Malaysian manufacturing environment. Support the production floor during pilot builds and ramp-ups, acting as the final escalation point for complex mechanical design issues.
Drive the implementation of Industry 4.0 features within mechanical assemblies, such as smart sensors and predictive maintenance components. Utilize FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and thermal simulation data to optimize structural integrity and heat dissipation in high-parallelism test sites Requirements Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Professional Engineer (PE) status or a Master’s degree is a plus. Minimum 8-10 years in mechanical design, with at least 5 years in a leadership/managerial role within the semiconductor equipment or high-tech automation industry. Technical Proficiency: o Advanced expertise in Solid. Works or Creo for 3D modeling and detailing.
o Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and precision machining tolerances. o Knowledge of pneumatics, actuators, and high-speed motion control systems. Excellent command of English (written and verbal) to facilitate communication with global stakeholders. Strong project management skills with the ability to "know the numbers" regarding project budgets and timelines Benefits Global Exposure: Opportunity to work on NASDAQ-listed technology that powers the world's most advanced EVs and AI chips.
Green Manufacturing: Join a site recognized for its commitment to renewable energy and sustainability (Outstanding Green Subscriber Award). Innovation Hub: Be part of a team that holds hundreds of patents in the semiconductor test space
