Role Description The Chief Surveyor is a full-time, on-site role based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Nigeria, responsible for leading all land and site surveying activities for TIMS healthcare projects. This role oversees survey planning, coordinates field teams, and ensures accurate measurement and mapping of project sites to support design, construction, and facility development.

The Chief Surveyor reviews drawings and project specifications, validates boundary and topographical data, and prepares detailed survey reports and documentation for project managers, engineers, and architects. The role also includes managing survey equipment and resources, enforcing safety and quality standards, and liaising with regulatory bodies, contractors, and clients as needed.

The Chief Surveyor provides technical guidance, mentors junior survey staff, and contributes to project timelines, budgeting, and risk assessments related to site conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Surveying Operations and Live Monitoring Perform precise boundary, topographic, layout, and as-built surveys for large-scale building and civil infrastructure works. Conduct live instrument readings during active operations (e.g., structural pouring, basement excavations, piling, structural steel erection, and settlement monitoring). Establish and preserve primary site survey control grids, reference lines, elevation benchmarks, and monitoring points. Translate structural and architectural construction drawings directly onto site boundaries and building grids.
  2. Equipment Management and Instrument Operation Operate advanced survey instruments including Robotic Total Stations, GNSS / RTK GPS receivers, Digital Levels, and 3D Laser Scanners. Manage automated survey instruments to stream live monitoring data to site monitoring dashboards and field logs. Maintain, calibrate, and verify all survey tools and instruments regularly to ensure zero operational deviation.
  3. Data Analysis, CAD Integration and Reporting Process, verify, and document field data using survey software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, Leica Geo Office, Trimble Business Center). Prepare detailed survey maps, topographical drawings, cross-sections, volumetric calculations, and earthwork reports. Promptly report spatial anomalies, structural shifts, or boundary disputes to project leadership.
  4. Leadership and Site Coordination Direct and supervise survey assistants, chainmen, and junior surveyors on-site. Coordinate with site engineers, architects, project managers, and quality control teams to ensure construction aligns with approved design drawings. Enforce strict site safety protocols during all surveying tasks.

Requirements

Qualifications and Skill Requirements Bachelor’s Degree (B.Sc.) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Surveying and Geoinformatics, Geomatic Engineering, or a related field. Full registration with SURCON (Surveyors Council of Nigeria) or membership with the NIS (Nigerian Institution of Surveyors) is highly preferred. 10+ years of hands-on construction and land surveying experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or supervisory capacity on major structural or infrastructure developments.

Proven expertise operating high-end surveying hardware (Leica, Trimble, Topcon, or Sokkia), including Robotic Total Stations, RTK / GNSS GPS Systems, Digital / Precision Optical Levels, 3D Terrestrial Laser Scanners Demonstrated capability taking live, real-time readings on active, fast-paced job sites without interrupting workflows.

Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, survey processing applications, MS Office, and GIS platforms. Core Competencies Advanced spatial reasoning and high attention to precision. Leadership, crew management, and field communication skills. Problem-solving under pressure on dynamic site environments.
