Job description

Position Context The BIW & Closures SME Lead Engineer is responsible for leading the technical development, integration, and optimization of Body-in-White (BIW) and Closures systems throughout the vehicle development lifecycle. The role serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for vehicle body structures, closures architecture, structural performance, manufacturability, quality, cost, and mass optimization.

Position Responsibilities Lead BIW and Closures engineering activities from concept development through production launch. Act as the technical SME for: Body-in-White Structures Closures (Doors, Hood, Tailgate/Liftgate) Fender and Aperture Systems Sealing Interfaces Hinges, Latches, and Strikers Define and manage vehicle body architectural concepts, hard points, and engineering requirements.

Drive cross-functional integration with Safety, NVH, Durability, Manufacturing, Vehicle Integration, and Design teams. Lead design reviews, package assessments, and engineering feasibility studies. Support root cause investigation and resolution of structural, fit & finish, sealing, and functional issues. Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to ensure robust product and process development.

Support prototype builds, vehicle evaluations, and launch activities. Conduct benchmarking studies and identify best practices for body and closures development. Mentor engineers and establish engineering standards, design guidelines, and technical roadmaps.

Requirements

Education

/ Professional Knowledge Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field. Minimum 15+ years of experience in automotive BIW, Closures, or Body Engineering development. Skills & Experience Strong knowledge of vehicle body architecture and complete vehicle integration.

Expertise in: BIW Structures Development Closures Systems Engineering Body Packaging and Integration Vehicle Structural Load Paths Sheet Metal Design Body Joints and Joining Technologies Sealing Systems and Water Management Dimensional Management and Tolerance Analysis Good understanding of Vehicle Attributes Experience with CAD tools such as: CATIA V5/V6 3DEXPERIENCE Teamcenter Siemens NX (preferred) Knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes including: Stamping Welding Hemming Adhesive Bonding Assembly Operations Experience working with global suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams.

Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities. Effective leadership, communication, and presentation skills. Ability to manage multiple vehicle programs under aggressive timelines.
