Position Context The Interior Design Integration, SME & Packaging Lead Engineer is responsible for leading the integration and packaging development of interior systems, ensuring alignment between styling, customer requirements, ergonomics, manufacturability, cost, quality, and vehicle attributes. The role serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for interior architecture, occupant packaging, and cross-functional integration throughout the vehicle development lifecycle.
Position Responsibilities Lead interior system integration and packaging activities from concept development through production. Define and manage interior package layouts to meet customer, ergonomic, and regulatory requirements. Act as SME for interior architecture, occupant accommodation, and package feasibility. Coordinate the integration of: Instrument Panel & Center Console Seating Systems Door Trims & Soft Trims Interior Trim Components HMI Interfaces & Storage Systems Drive resolution of package conflicts between Interior, Body, Chassis, Electrical, HVAC, Safety, and Battery teams.
Support development of vehicle hard points, occupant packages, visibility, comfort, and usability targets. Conduct packaging feasibility studies and trade-off assessments. Lead interior digital mock-up (DMU) reviews and package maturity assessments. Ensure compliance with safety, ergonomics, accessibility, and regulatory requirements.
Support cost, weight, quality, and manufacturability optimization initiatives. Collaborate closely with Design Studio to ensure styling intent is maintained while meeting engineering requirements. Support prototype builds, vehicle evaluations, and issue resolution activities. Mentor junior engineers and establish best practices for interior integration and packaging development.
Requirements
Education
/ Professional Knowledge Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or related field. Minimum 15+ years of experience in automotive interior engineering, vehicle integration, or packaging development. Skills & Experience Strong knowledge of vehicle interior systems and complete vehicle architecture.
Expertise in: Interior Packaging Occupant Accommodation Ergonomics Development Interior System Integration Human Factors Engineering Vehicle Package Layout DMU Reviews and Package Assessment Experience developing and managing vehicle package requirements and hard points. Good understanding of safety, visibility, comfort, accessibility, and customer experience requirements.
Experience with CAD and package tools such as: CATIA V5/V6 3DExperience Teamcenter Experience working with Design Studio, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supplier teams. Strong understanding of interior cost, quality, weight, and manufacturability trade-offs. Excellent problem-solving and cross-functional coordination skills.
Effective leadership, communication, and presentation skills. Ability to manage multiple vehicle programs and deliver under aggressive timelines. Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in EV vehicle development programs. Experience with global OEM vehicle packaging standards and benchmarking. Strong understanding of customer-centric interior design and premium vehicle interior requirements. OEM or Tier-1 automotive experience in Interior Integration, Packaging, or Vehicle Architecture.
