Senior Accountant (recruiting from Malta only)

Our Client, a leading professional services organisation in Malta, is looking to recruit a Senior Accountant to join its growing and dynamic team. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accounting professional who enjoys managing a diverse client portfolio, mentoring junior team members, and delivering high-quality financial and advisory services.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining strong client relationships while ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Manage a portfolio of clients, preparing management accounts, financial statements, VAT returns, and ensuring all statutory deadlines are met. Review financial statements, VAT returns, and accounting work prepared by junior team members to ensure accuracy and compliance. Coordinate with auditors and internal departments to facilitate annual audits and timely submission of statutory documentation.

Mentor, supervise, and support junior accountants through regular coaching, technical guidance, and performance feedback. Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing professional accounting advice and responding to client requirements efficiently. Identify process improvements, support departmental compliance initiatives, contribute to internal training, and assist management with technical projects and publications.

Requirements

Minimum of 2 years' experience within a client accounting or professional services environment. Strong technical knowledge of financial reporting, VAT, and Maltese statutory accounting requirements. Experience reviewing financial statements and supervising or mentoring junior team members. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple client assignments and meet deadlines.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a professional and client-focused approach. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and experience using SAGE or similar accounting software. Licenses & Qualifications Fully qualified accountant through a recognised professional accountancy qualification (e.

g. ACCA, ACA or equivalent). Sound understanding of accounting standards and VAT legislation. Excellent command of written and spoken English.
