Job description

A climate and energy strategy advisory firm is seeking an experienced Part-time Bookkeeper to work 12 hours per week. This position supports overall operational excellence through the accurate, timely management of day-to-day financial transactions. This one-year fixed-term contract role ensures accounting records remain audit-ready while directly supporting sound financial management.

The role reports to the Financial Manager. Office days and times: Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am to 1 pm on site.

Key Responsibilities

Issue accurate client invoices on schedule using cloud accounting software. Debtor and Creditor Maintenance: Maintain up-to-date ledger records, track outstanding balances, and systematically follow up on overdue accounts. Supplier and Expense Processing: Process supplier invoices for payment and manage expense claims for employees and sub-contractors in line with internal policy and supporting documentation.

Bank Reconciliation: Perform regular bank transaction reconciliations, ensuring receipts and payments align with correct accounts. Risk and Exception Flagging: Identify and flag overdue debtors and creditors to the Financial Manager on a pre-defined schedule to mitigate cash flow risks. Audit Readiness: Maintain clean, appropriately categorised ledger records to ensure systems remain audit-ready at all times.

Month-End Close Support: Assist with month-end ledger closures by ensuring all transactional data for the period is fully captured, allocated, and reconciled. Statutory Compliance: Prepare monthly VAT and EMP reconciliations and complete required e-filing submissions. Query Resolution: Address routine billing queries from clients, suppliers, employees, and sub-contractors in a clear, professional manner.

General Financial Support: Assist the Financial Manager with ad hoc financial administration and reporting duties as required.

Requirements

Completed qualification in Bookkeeping or similar Willingness and ability to work in-office for three days per week (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday) from 9 to 1 pm Knowledge and experience using Xero software Benefits Part-time role One year fixed-term contract (with a view to become a permanent role) Flexibility (to be discussed during interview process)
