Staff Nurse – Orthopaedic & Acute Surgical Ward

We are currently hiring a Staff Nurse – Orthopaedic & Acute Surgical Ward for a hospital in Galway, Ireland. Employment Type: Permanent Working Hours: 37.

5 hours per week (full-time) Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care and treatments in accordance with established hospital policies, procedures, professional standards, and clinical guidelines.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using the nursing process while maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation. Support effective discharge planning based on individual patient needs.
• Safely administer medications, intravenous therapies, blood and blood products, and controlled drugs in line with hospital policies. Monitor patients following administration, document outcomes, and promptly report any adverse events or medication errors.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control best practices, collaborating with the Infection Prevention and Control Team to identify, manage, and report infections in accordance with hospital protocols.
• Ensure the safe handling, segregation, and disposal of clinical and medical waste while maintaining compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

Requirements

Registered, or eligible for registration, in the General Nurse Division of the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). Registered General Nurse (RGN) qualification with a current NMBI registration or eligibility to register. Minimum 1–2 years of post-registration nursing experience, preferably in Orthopaedic and/or Surgical Nursing.

Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care. Personally and professionally accountable for delivering safe and effective patient care. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills. Flexible approach to working hours, with the ability to work a rotational roster, including day and night shifts.
