Job description

The Department of Medicine, Division of Respirology at Niagara Health seeks a highly motivated physician with a passion for providing the highest quality care to join the department. It is expected that the candidate will open or join an outpatient practice in the north Niagara Region to provide care for outpatients and follow up of hospital patients.

Strong academic partnerships are a priority for the NH as the organization builds on a robust relationship with Mc. Master University’s Michael G. De. Catharines site. Plan is to expand the service to meet growing demand Call: Respirology inpatient service (1 in 6) shared equally General Internal Medicine hospitalist call once per month. The Practice: Community general and hospital Respirology Remuneration from OHIP billings Busy Lung Diagnostic Assessment Program (LDAP) for lung cancer run at the local Cancer Centre with onsite thoracic surgeons from St.

Joseph’s in Hamilton providing surgical assessments Pleural disease clinic weekly Asthma clinics at the hospital COPD rehabilitation program at the hospital 3 bed sleep lab in hospital Bronchoscopy, with plans to obtain EBUS capability Good support from interventional radiology including biopsies Full pulmonary function testing in hospital Outpatient practices are private.

It is expected that the successful applicant will establish a full time outpatient practice in the Niagara region. The medical school has expanded to a regional campus in Niagara, which is located at Brock University. Students at the Niagara Regional Campus complete their clinical rotations in one of the six area hospitals with teaching done by the highly skilled and motivated hospital physicians. Opportunities for strengthening and building strong academic partnerships are a priority for Niagara Health as the hospital has expanded into this new facility.

We are interested in physicians who will pursue a university faculty appointment and participate in academic activities within a strong regional community hospital setting. In addition to Mc. Master, Niagara Health is building strong ties with other regional academic providers such as Brock University and Niagara College.

Niagara Health also shares a special relationship with St. Joseph’s Hospital Hamilton (home of the Firestone clinic) given our shared CEO and Chief of Staff model. An example of a program partnership between the organizations is the Lung Diagnostic Assessment Program (LDAP).
