Job description
Design & Engineering Execution
- Leads the engineering design of ICSS systems including DCS, SIS, FGS.
- Executes design for complex control and safeguarding systems across all units.
- Ensures technical compatibility and integration of all ICSS interfaces.
- Designs and supports instrumentation and control for packaged equipment.
- Ensures ICSS architecture, infrastructure, protocols, and control strategies meet project requirements.
- Prepares and updates ICSS specifications and drawings.
- Reviews and approves engineering documents such as: ICSS design philosophy, specifications, architecture, and system configuration, Process Control Narratives, Cause & Effect Diagrams, Sequence & Logic Diagrams, Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS), SIL Verification Procedures & Reports, Alarm Management strategies and Graphic Display sketches, Instrument Index, I/O lists, and Instrument Wiring/Connection Diagrams, Instrument Building/Room Layouts and Cabinet Layouts, Design inputs to ICSS vendors and inquiry packages including requisitions Interface & Communication
- Coordinates with internal disciplines (Electrical, Building, HSE, Piping, Painting, Civil, Insulation).
- Interfaces with clients, vendors, and engineering subcontractors.
- Aligns design interfaces with internal teams (field instruments, analyzers, construction design).
- Prepares, checks, and approves technical bid evaluation reports.
- Prepares technical correspondence and queries to clients. Documentation & Review
- Reviews vendor documents and provides approvals.
- Attends meetings related to ICSS design and project coordination.
- Participates in HAZOP and SIL classification meetings. Testing & Site Work
- Leads Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) at vendor facilities.
- Plans and executes Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and pre-commissioning activities.
- Performs field engineering work at construction sites or module fabrication yards.
- Conducts sequence and logic testing during commissioning. Leadership & Coordination
- Reports to the Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Lead Engineer.
- Coordinates with the I&C Lead Engineer for resource planning and progress tracking.
- Manages engineering subcontractors and ensures alignment with project requirements.
- Responsible for manpower planning and execution man-hours under his control.
- Ensures engineering deliverables are completed as per schedule and project milestones.
- Acts as the primary technical focal point for correspondence between client and JGC as well as vendors and JGC.
- Resolves technical issues between JGC and client related to ICSS design.
- Manages project changes and ensures their effective implementation in ICSS design. Reporting & Monitoring
- Responsible for progress reporting against Level 3 schedule.
- Monitors overall progress of system design activities to meet milestone schedules.
- Ensures that progress supports overall project scope and timeline Other Duties
- Performs other necessary tasks as requested or instructed by supervisors.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree (as minimum) in Instrumentation / Electronics/ Electronic & Communications or similar categories from a recognized university. 15 years of relevant experience in ICSS engineering within the Oil & Gas EPC industry.
- Experience in detailed design and execution of ICSS (DCS, SIS, FGS, PLCs).
- Familiarity with international standards such as IEC, ISA, API, and other applicable codes.
- Exposure to major ICSS platforms such as Honeywell, Yokogawa, Emerson, ABB, or equivalent.
- Participation in FAT, SAT, and site engineering activities. Experience in vendor coordination and technical documentation Technical Expertise
- In-depth knowledge of ICSS systems including DCS, SIS, FGS, and PLCs.
- Strong understanding of control system architecture, network protocols, and system integration.
- Proficiency in developing and reviewing control philosophies, logic diagrams, cause & effect diagrams, and alarm management strategies.
- Proficiency in Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and SIL verification procedures.
- Familiarity with instrumentation and control for packaged equipment and complex process units. Cybersecurity & Functional Safety
- Awareness of cybersecurity principles and standards applicable to industrial control systems (e.g., IEC 62443).
- Understanding of functional safety lifecycle in accordance with IEC 61511.
- Preferred: Certification in Functional Safety issued by TÜV or Exida.
- Preferred: Certification in Cyber Security (TÜV, Exida or ISA). Software Proficiency
- Skilled in engineering tools such as Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI/INtools), AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience with ICSS vendor tools and configuration platforms (e.g., Honeywell EPKS, Yokogawa CENTUM, Emerson DeltaV, ABB 800xA). Project & Communication Skills
- Ability to prepare and review technical documentation, correspondence, and business letters.
- Skilled in technical bid evaluations, vendor document reviews, and interface coordination.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Capable of managing FAT/SAT, site coordination, and pre-commissioning activities. Leadership & Interpersonal Skills
- Contributes to the mentoring and training of junior engineers within the department.
- Provides direct supervision and checking of work by junior staff when required.

- Commits to open, transparent, and effective two-way communication. Special Requirements Willingness to travel overseas for long-term assignments, which may include:
- Working at JGC Headquarters in Yokohama, Japan.
- Visiting ICSS vendor premises for Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
- Deployment to construction sites or module fabrication yards.
- Duration of such assignments may extend to 6 months, 1 year, or longer, depending on project needs.
- Flexibility to relocate or work in multi-cultural environments across different geographies.
- Ability to adapt to site conditions, including remote or offshore locations.
- Willingness for the contribution to the departmental activities such as department guideline preparation, lessons and learnt preparation and participation and organizing training session for the members in department.
