Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)

The CRNA administers the full spectrum of anesthesia including inhalation, intravenous, and regional anesthetics. The CRNA performs and documents a preanesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient, including requesting consultations and diagnostic studies; selecting, obtaining, ordering, or administering preanesthetic medications and fluids; and obtaining informed consent for anesthesia.

In addition, the CRNA will select and implement the appropriate anesthesia plan and document accordingly. The CRNA may function independently or in a medically directed team model with an anesthesiologist.
