Foreman – Civil Construction & Erosion Control
Job description
We are seeking an experienced Foreman to lead and oversee field crews performing civil construction and erosion control work. This role is responsible for supervising daily operations related to SWPPP installations, erosion control systems, slope stabilization, and general civil labor activities. The Foreman ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project plans, environmental regulations, and quality standards.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, capable of directing crews in the field, coordinating materials and equipment, and serving as the primary point of contact between laborers and site management.
Key Responsibilities
Crew Leadership & Supervision Supervise, direct, and support field crews performing civil and erosion control work. Assign daily tasks, monitor productivity, and ensure crews follow project schedules. Train and mentor laborers on proper installation techniques, safety procedures, and best practices. Enforce job site safety standards and company policies at all times.
Erosion Control & SWPPP Oversight Lead the installation of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) measures, including: Straw wattles Silt fencing Basin straw and matting Curlex and other erosion control blankets Stake layouts and safety barriers Ensure erosion control devices are installed correctly per plans, specifications, and environmental requirements.
Conduct routine inspections of erosion control measures and coordinate repairs or adjustments as needed. Civil & Earthwork Coordination Oversee ground preparation, grading, trenching, and general earthwork activities. Coordinate with equipment operators to ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently. Assist with layout, measurements, and verification of work per drawings or field instructions.
Materials, Equipment & Site Coordination Coordinate delivery, staging, and use of materials and tools on site. Ensure proper use, care, and basic maintenance of hand tools and light equipment. Communicate material needs, crew requirements, and site conditions to the Superintendent or Project Manager. Compliance & Quality Control Ensure all work complies with environmental regulations, SWPPP requirements, and local standards.
Maintain job site cleanliness and organization. Identify issues in the field and proactively resolve or escalate them as needed.
Requirements
Proven experience in civil construction, erosion control, or environmental protection work. Prior experience leading or supervising crews in the field. Strong working knowledge of erosion control materials and methods, including SWPPP requirements. Ability to read and interpret construction plans, layouts, and instructions.
Strong safety awareness and ability to enforce job site safety standards. Physically capable of performing hands-on work alongside crews when required. Reliable transportation and flexibility with work hours and job locations.
Preferred Qualifications
Foreman or lead experience on civil, infrastructure, or environmental projects. Knowledge of SWPPP inspections, compliance documentation, and corrective actions. Experience coordinating with inspectors, superintendents, or project managers. Ability to operate light machinery or construction equipment. Strong communication and leadership skills.
