Project Manager (Alumina / Bayer process / Refinery) LATAM

Gate. Source HR is looking for a Project Manager with experience in Bayer Process to lead and optimize a large-scale alumina refining operation. This role is based in a continuous, heavy industrial environment requiring stable 24/7 production, strong process discipline, and deep operational expertise in the Bayer Process.

The successful candidate will have proven experience managing thermal stability, energy efficiency, and environmentally compliant residue handling systems.

Key Responsibilities

Lead daily operations and performance management of an industrial alumina refinery utilizing the Bayer Process Ensure continuous, stable 24/7 production while maintaining process control and thermal balance across the plant. Oversee digestion, clarification, precipitation, and calcination circuits with a focus on throughput and product quality.

Manage energy, steam, and heat integration systems to optimize efficiency and reduce operational costs. Drive improvements in plant reliability, availability, and operational discipline. Supervise Red Mud residue handling, storage, and disposal in compliance with international environmental and safety standards. Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across operations, maintenance, process engineering, and HSE.

Implement best practices for risk management, safety leadership, and continuous improvement. Serve as the primary operational interface with technical consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

Direct operational responsibility for Bayer Process alumina refining in an industrial-scale plant environment. Proven experience managing continuous 24/7 plant operations, including thermal stability and process control. Strong expertise in energy management, including steam system optimization and heat efficiency improvements.

Demonstrated experience with Red Mud handling and residue management, aligned with international environmental compliance requirements. Track record of leadership in heavy industrial production settings with strong safety culture.
