Job Summary

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Instrument Panel (IP) and Console is responsible for leading the design, development, validation, and launch of instrument panel and center console systems. This individual will serve as the technical authority, ensuring the components meet all functional, aesthetic, cost, and regulatory requirements while aligning with overall vehicle architecture and brand identity.

Lead the design and development of the instrument panel and console systems from concept to production. Act as the primary technical expert and decision-maker for IP and console components. Define engineering requirements, specifications, and performance targets. Coordinate with cross-functional teams including Styling, Electrical, HVAC, Safety, and Manufacturing.

Support supplier selection, manage technical communication, and oversee DVP&R activities. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company best practices. Participate in design reviews, DFMEA, and root cause analysis for issue resolution. Monitor and manage cost, weight, and quality targets for IP and console systems.

Provide support during build events, launches, and post-launch issue resolution.

Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field. 13+ years of experience in automotive interior systems, specifically in instrument panel and console design. Deep knowledge of plastic and composite materials, injection molding, and assembly processes. Familiarity with CAD tools (CATIA, NX) and PLM systems.

Strong understanding of vehicle integration, ergonomics, safety requirements, and HMI considerations. Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills. Preferred: Experience working with global teams and suppliers. Hands-on experience with prototype builds and launch activities. Knowledge of the latest trends in interior systems, such as digital clusters and modular console designs.
