Position Context The Chassis SME Lead Engineer is responsible for leading the technical development, integration, and optimization of chassis systems throughout the vehicle development lifecycle. The role serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for chassis architecture, vehicle dynamics, ride & handling, durability, and system integration, ensuring achievement of vehicle performance, quality, cost, weight, and manufacturability targets.
Position Responsibilities Lead chassis engineering activities from concept development through production launch. Act as the technical SME for: Front & Rear Suspension Systems Steering Systems Brake Systems Wheels & Tires Subframes and Mounting Systems Chassis Bushing Components Define and manage chassis system requirements and vehicle-level performance targets.
Lead chassis integration activities across vehicle platforms and programs. Drive cross-functional collaboration with Vehicle Dynamics, NVH, Durability, Safety, BIW, Powertrain, EE, Manufacturing, and Vehicle Integration teams. Support chassis architecture definition and package optimization. Lead design reviews, technical assessments, and engineering feasibility studies.
Investigate and resolve vehicle performance issues identified during development and validation. Support prototype builds, proving ground testing, vehicle evaluations, and launch activities. Coordinate technical alignment with suppliers and development partners. Conduct benchmarking studies and identify best-in-class chassis solutions.
Mentor engineers and establish engineering standards, best practices, and technical roadmaps for chassis development.
Requirements
Education
/ Professional Knowledge Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field. Minimum 15+ years of experience in automotive chassis engineering and vehicle development. Skills & Experience Strong knowledge of complete vehicle chassis architecture and integration. Expertise in: Suspension System Design & Development Vehicle Dynamics Ride & Handling Development Steering System Engineering Brake System Engineering Tire & Wheel Integration Kinematics & Compliance (K&C) Chassis Durability and Structural Performance Good understanding of Attributes and Integration Experience using engineering and simulation tools such as: Adams/Car Car.
Maker Opti. Struct Abaqus MATLAB/Simulink CATIA V5/V6 Experience with vehicle testing, data analysis, and correlation activities. Strong understanding of EV chassis development, including battery integration and vehicle mass management. Experience working with global suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams. Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
Effective leadership, communication, and presentation skills. Ability to manage multiple vehicle programs under aggressive timelines. Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in global OEM or Tier-1 chassis development programs. Expertise in ride tuning, handling performance, and chassis attribute optimization. Experience supporting vehicles from concept phase through production launch. Knowledge of international regulatory and vehicle performance requirements.
