Job description

Purpose of the Position The Mathematical Literacy Educator will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning experiences to learners in Grades 10-12. The successful candidate will inspire learners to develop practical mathematical skills, critical thinking abilities, and confidence that support both academic achievement and real-world application.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Mathematical Literacy lessons in accordance with the CAPS curriculum. Create a stimulating learning environment that promotes academic achievement. Employ various teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning needs. Integrate technology and innovative teaching methodologies where appropriate.

Encourage learner participation, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Assessment and Reporting Develop and administer assessments in line with curriculum requirements. Monitor learner progress and provide timely feedback. Analyse assessment data to identify areas requiring intervention. Maintain accurate records of learner performance.

Prepare reports and communicate learner progress to parents and management. Classroom Management Establish and maintain a positive and disciplined classroom environment. Promote respect, responsibility, and positive learner behaviour. Implement school policies and procedures consistently. Learner Support Identify learners requiring academic support and implement intervention strategies.

Provide guidance and mentorship to learners where needed. Foster learner confidence, resilience, and academic growth. Extra-Mural Involvement Contribute actively to the school's extra-curricular and extra-mural programme. Participate in school events, activities, parent evenings, and functions. Assist with duties as assigned by school management.

Professional Contribution Participate in staff meetings, professional development initiatives, and training programmes. Contribute positively to the school's culture and strategic objectives. Build productive relationships with learners, parents, colleagues, and stakeholders.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements Qualifications Relevant Bachelor's Degree and Professional Teaching Qualification. Specialisation in Mathematical Literacy and/or Mathematics. Registration with the South African Council for Educators (SACE). Experience Minimum of 5 years' teaching experience within the FET Phase (Grades 10-12). Proven experience teaching Mathematical Literacy.

Demonstrated track record of strong learner results. Competencies and Skills Technical Competencies Sound knowledge of CAPS curriculum requirements. Strong assessment and moderation skills.
