QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent.
JOB SUMMARY
To work closely with an exceptional student on a regular basis in an effort to provide him/her with an environment in which he/she can take full advantage of the instructional program.
REPORTS TO: Classroom Teacher, Principal, and other administrators.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary, benefits, and work year as established in the Board of Education. Salary $15.71 per hour with the potential of working 5 additional weeks during the summer.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists the assigned student with self-help and self-care skills such as moving from room to room, using the lavatory, and toileting assistance, etc.

Performs simple errands and tasks for the student such as sharpening pencils, carrying lunch trays, etc.

Accompanies the student to the office or to other areas of the building if appropriate.

Establishes a positive relationship with the student encouraging independent functioning without fostering emotional involvement.

Serves as a resource persona to the student personnel evaluation team conferring about student to whom assigned.

Participates in professional development as it relates to his/her job/student assignment.

Facilitates the integration of the special education student into the regular classroom.

Establishes cooperative relationships with other staff members.

Helps the student maintain limits which define or structure a situation in a positive manner.

Cooperates with the teacher to create positive solutions to problems.

Helps the child to develop appropriate personal and interpersonal skills.

Maintains flexible attitude and approach towards classroom situations.

Shows a genuine concern and respect for the student(s).

Helps to supervise the arrival and dismissal of students to and from school, including walkers and those provided with bus transportation.

If specified in the student’s IEP/504, the facilitator may be requested to ride the bus both to and from school.

Sanitize materials/equipment in accordance with program and board policy.
-
When the assigned student is not in need of assistance or absent, the facilitator should circulate and assist other students in the classroom, as needed.

Carries out other appropriate activities as assigned by the teacher.
