Senior Systems Engineer | Integrated Product Support (IPS) Maintenance, Reliability & Sustainment Location: Melbourne, Australia Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Tuesday-Thursday in office) Salary : AUD $130,000-$150,000 plus 10% annual bonus opportunity Lead Defence Sustainment Strateg y World Fuel Government Solutions is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer – Integrated Product Support (IPS) to lead maintenance, supportability, reliability, and lifecycle engineering activities across complex Defence systems and equipment.

This role is responsible for defining how Defence capability will be maintained, supported, repaired, and sustained throughout its operational lifecycle. You will develop maintenance concepts, supportability strategies, Maintenance Task Analysis (MTA) outputs, sparing requirements, sustainment plans, and lifecycle support deliverables that help ensure critical Defence systems remain safe, reliable, and operational for years to come.

This Is Not a Traditional Systems Engineering Role This is not a requirements management, architecture, MBSE, or verification-focused systems engineering position. We are seeking an engineer with deep expertise in: Integrated Product Support (IPS) Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Maintenance Engineering Reliability Engineering Supportability Engineering Lifecycle Sustainment Asset Management What You'll Be Doing Lead Sustainment & Supportability Activities Lead Integrated Product Support (IPS) activities across Defence programs.

Define maintenance concepts, sustainment strategies, and supportability frameworks. Create lifecycle support solutions for complex Defence systems. Influence how Defence capability is maintained throughout its service life. Conduct Maintenance Task Analysis (MTA) Perform Maintenance Task Analysis activities. Review OEM manuals, technical data packages, and system documentation.

Define maintenance requirements, servicing frequencies, and support concepts. Establish maintenance strategies aligned to operational usage profiles. Define Sparing & Support Requirements Determine sparing requirements and provisioning strategies. Define supportability requirements and sustainment solutions. Develop lifecycle support plans.

Contribute to long-term asset support planning. Lead Defence IPS Deliverables Develop IPS-related Defence deliverables. Support ASDEFCON-aligned programs and activities. Develop technical publications, maintenance instructions, and support documentation. Ensure deliverables meet customer and contractual requirements. Support Reliability & Lifecycle Planning Lead investigations into equipment failures and degradation concerns.

Support ongoing reliability and maintainability activities. Recommend improvements to maintenance and support strategies. Mentor and develop engineers within the sustainment team.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline. Australian Citizen able to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance. 7+ years of relevant engineering experience. Strong understanding of maintenance and support of complex mechanical systems.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Demonstrated Experience In Several Of The Following Areas Integrated Product Support (IPS) Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Maintenance Task Analysis (MTA) Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (RAM) Supportability Engineering Sustainment Engineering Maintenance Engineering Asset Lifecycle Management Fleet Sustainment Product Support Engineering Sparing Analysis Relevant Industries Strong candidates may come from: Defence Aerospace Aviation Rail Marine Transport Oil & Gas Utilities Manufacturing Mining Heavy Industry What Success Looks Like In this role, you will be the person defining how equipment is supported throughout its lifecycle.

You will determine: What maintenance needs to be performed How frequently it should occur What spare parts should be provisioned What support documentation needs to be developed How sustainment strategies should evolve as equipment ages Successful candidates combine strong technical expertise with the ability to collaborate effectiely with customers, suppliers, project teams, and senior stakeholders.
