Job description

Job Summary

The Senior Officer, Transaction Operations is a senior hands-on operator of the national payment rail, responsible for the day-to-day monitoring, processing operations, first-line incident response and transaction-exception handling that keep the national scheme available, performant and correct. Working under the Head, Transaction Operations, the Senior Officer is a lead operator — the person watching the rail, acting first when something is wrong, and guiding the Officers on shift.

Because the rail operates continuously, the role works to a shift or on-call pattern and carries real operational responsibility for the health of national payment infrastructure in the moment. Main Responsibilities Processing Operations and Monitoring Operate and monitor the national rail and its channels in real time — availability, transaction success, latency, throughput and queue health — using the Company’s monitoring and observability tools.

Execute daily processing operations, checks and controls across the scheme’s channels to defined procedures and service levels. Act on alerts promptly, distinguishing genuine degradation from noise, and initiate the correct response. Perform operational verification of new channels, participants and releases entering processing.

Incident and Exception Handling Serve as first-line responder to processing incidents — triage, contain and resolve within authority, and escalate to the Head, Transaction Operations, to Technology Operations or to participants as required. Investigate and resolve transaction-level exceptions — stuck, failed, unmatched, reversed or timed-out transactions — or route them correctly to Settlement and Reconciliation.

Log incidents and exceptions accurately and in full, and contribute to root-cause analysis and permanent fixes. Support major-incident response and maintain incident communications during events. Controls, Risk and Compliance Operate processing controls in accordance with scheme rules, procedures and regulatory requirements.

Support transaction monitoring and fraud-detection operations at the processing layer, and flag suspicious or anomalous activity. Maintain accurate operational records, logs and shift-handover documentation. Team and Continuous Improvement Provide guidance, direction and informal supervision to Officers, Transaction Operations, particularly on shift.

Support the Head, Transaction Operations in maintaining run-books, procedures and operational readiness. Identify recurring issues and propose operational improvements and automation. Participate in a shift or on-call rota providing coverage for a continuously operating rail.
