Senior Grid Connection & Commercial AUS Solar Design Engineer

Job Overview We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Grid Connection & Commercial AUS Solar Design Engineer specializing in commercial system design and grid connection within the Australian market. The successful candidate will lead the end-to-end technical design, analysis, and embedded generation application process for commercial and utility-scale energy projects, including solar and BESS systems.

This role requires deep expertise in system architecture, electrical design calculations, and DNSP (Distribution Network Service Provider) application processes, primarily within Victoria. You will be responsible for ensuring compliant, optimized, and financially viable energy system designs from concept through to final grid approval.

Key Responsibilities

Initial Data & System Architecture Perform interval data analysis to establish site load profiles, demand patterns, export limitations, and BESS cycling strategies Determine optimal DC:AC ratios and BESS sizing aligned with load matching and financial modeling Develop inverter and string configurations in compliance with AS/NZS 5033 Define battery inverter configurations for both AC-coupled and DC-coupled systems Electrical Design & Calculations Produce detailed Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) including equipment ratings and Point of Connection (POC) details Perform voltage rise calculations in accordance with AS/NZS 4777.

2 and relevant DNSP requirements Conduct fault level analysis to ensure equipment rating compliance Carry out protection coordination studies using Time-Current Curves (TCCs) DNSP Embedded Generation Application (Primarily VIC) Identify and engage with relevant DNSPs (Aus. Net, Powercor, United Energy, Jemena, Citipower) Prepare complete technical application packages for systems >30 kW or >200 kVA, including SLDs, datasheets, and protection studies Complete and submit DNSP-specific application forms via online portals Manage application progress and respond to DNSP technical queries Modifications & Final Approval Review DNSP feedback on protection settings, metering, and earthing requirements Update and revise design documentation including SLDs and TCCs based on feedback Resubmit documentation to achieve final approval and formal grid connection agreements Requirements Qualifications Extensive experience in commercial system design and grid connection within the Australian electrical market (mandatory) Strong understanding of DNSP requirements and embedded generation processes, particularly in Victoria Proven expertise in solar PV and BESS system design, including hybrid AC/DC-coupled systems In-depth knowledge of AS/NZS standards including AS/NZS 5033 and AS/NZS 4777.

2 Experience in electrical calculations including voltage rise, fault level analysis, and protection coordination studies Ability to develop and interpret Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) and technical engineering documentation Familiarity with DNSP application portals and technical submission processes Strong analytical, problem-solving, and system optimization skills Experience working with interval data analysis and energy modeling tools is highly desirable Benefits Why Join Us?
