Summary: The Language & Translation Assistant plays a critical role in ensuring effective communication across diverse linguistic communities in Northeast Nigeria. This position supports the translation and interpretation of program materials, messages, and field communications into local languages, enabling inclusive engagement between EMF, program teams, and affected populations.
By ensuring linguistic accuracy and cultural relevance, the assistant helps bridge communication gaps, strengthens community trust, and enhances the impact of humanitarian and development initiatives. The role is essential in promoting equitable access to information and fostering meaningful participation in program activities.
Responsibilities
Support translation of program materials, messages, and documents into local languages spoken in Northeast Nigeria. Assist in providing real-time interpretation during community engagements, field visits, and program meetings. Conduct quality checks on translated content to ensure accuracy, consistency, and cultural appropriateness.
Help maintain and update a standardized glossary of key terms across target languages. Support the documentation, categorization, and archiving of translated and interpreted materials. Coordinate with community-based language volunteers and professional translators. Assist in organizing and delivering capacity-building sessions for translators within the Language, Translation and Localisation Unit.
