The Crisis Prevention & Response Unit (CPRU) is a frontline community violence intervention initiative dedicated to advancing safety and stability in Chicago. This role is centered on preventing and interrupting cycles of violence through evidence-based strategies, including conflict mediation, crisis de-escalation, and relationship-driven outreach.
CPRU team members serve as credible messengers who engage individuals and groups at elevated risk of violence, provide immediate intervention during high-tension situations, and connect residents to supportive resources that address underlying needs. By addressing conflict before it escalates, CPRU helps to create safer, more connected communities and supports the long-term goal of reducing violence through prevention rather than punishment.
