Key Responsibilities
- Arbitration Management: Lead and oversee arbitration proceedings, ensuring compliance with arbitration laws and procedures. Draft and negotiate arbitration agreements, statements of claim, and defenses. Represent the organization in hearings and mediations, working closely with external counsel to develop strategies that align with our business objectives.
- Litigation Oversight: Manage all aspects of litigation involving the organization, including the development and implementation of litigation strategies. Coordinate with external legal counsel to ensure effective representation in court and settlement negotiations. Review case documents, pleadings, and evidence to assess legal risks and provide actionable recommendations.
- Transactional Legal Support: Provide comprehensive legal support for various transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and other strategic initiatives. Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements, ensuring they align with company policy and mitigate risk. Conduct due diligence processes to identify potential legal issues and advise stakeholders accordingly.
- Project Finance Legal Advisory: Advise on the legal implications of project financing arrangements, ensuring compliance with local and international laws. Collaborate with finance and operational teams to structure financing transactions effectively while addressing legal risks. Prepare and review legal documentation related to project finance transactions.
- Legal Research and Compliance: Conduct in-depth legal research to stay informed on developments in laws and regulations that affect the business. Develop and implement compliance programs to ensure adherence to all applicable laws and regulations, including industry-specific guidelines.
- Risk Management: Proactively identify and assess potential legal risks within the organization and provide strategic advice to mitigate them. Develop risk management frameworks and policies in collaboration with senior management to ensure organizational resilience.
- Leadership and Development: Mentor and lead a team of junior legal professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment. Conduct training sessions and workshops on legal topics to enhance the team’s skills and knowledge.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution; an LLM or equivalent qualification is preferred. Experience: 10 to 12 years of progressive experience in arbitration, litigation, transactional law, and project finance. Skills: Demonstrated expertise in managing complex legal issues and high-stakes negotiations.
Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to make sound judgments. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders. Proven ability to influence and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
