Job Title: Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MFB) Location: Nigeria Industry: Microfinance bank Reports To: Executive Management About the Company Our client, a group of companies recently licensed as a Microfinance Bank (MFB), is looking to hire a Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO).
Position Overview
The MD/CEO will provide overall strategic leadership, direction, and management of the Microfinance Bank (MFB), ensuring its growth, sustainability, and compliance with regulatory standards. The role requires a visionary leader with strong experience in financial services, an understanding of the Nigerian microfinance landscape, and the ability to leverage technology and partnerships with fintech/payment players to expand access to financial services.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy Leadership and Partnerships:
- Develop and implement the Bank’s strategic plan in line with Board directives and regulatory guidelines.
- Drive innovation by forging strong partnerships with fintech, payment serviceproviders, and other technology partners to deliver digital-first financial solutions.
- Identify and implement new products, services, and channels that enhance customer experience and promote financial inclusion. Operational & Oversight:
- Ensure compliance with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and all regulatory requirements, including prudential guidelines and reporting.
- Oversee the Bank’s operations, risk management framework, and internal control systems to safeguard assets and ensure efficiency.
- Monitor financial performance, ensuring profitability, liquidity, and sustainability of the Bank. Business Development & Growth:
- Champion the expansion of customer acquisition strategies, focusing on underserved communities, SMEs, and individuals.
- Drive revenue growth through innovative microfinance products, digital channels, and agency banking initiatives.
- Oversee marketing, customer service, and community engagement to strengthen the Bank’s brand and impact. People & Culture Management:
- Lead and inspire the management team and staff, promoting a culture of performance, accountability, and innovation.
- Ensure effective talent management, training, and succession planning across the Bank.
- Promote ethical standards, integrity, and customer-centric values throughout the organization. Board & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Report regularly to the Board on performance, risks, opportunities, and strategic initiatives.
- Build strong relationships with regulators, shareholders, investors, fintech partners, and other stakeholders.
- Provide thought leadership on industry trends and advocate for financial inclusion in Nigeria. Equality The post holder must demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm to promote the principle of equality in employment and service delivery. Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Minimum of a first degree. Additional qualifications in Finance, Banking, Economics, or Business Administration will be an advantage (MBA preferred).
- Professional Certification: Must have successfully completed the Microfinance Certification Programme and obtained a Certificate in Microfinance Banking from the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) – larp.cbn.gov.ng.
- Experience: At least 10 years post-qualification experience, with a minimum of 5 years in financial services and at least 3 years at senior management level.
- Proven track record of driving business growth and managing partnerships in financial services, particularly with fintech or payment ecosystems.
- Strong understanding of digital banking, microfinance operations, risk management, and regulatory compliance. Core Competencies & Attributes:
