Overview

A global pharmaceutical and API manufacturing company is seeking a Head of HR & Administration to support its Japan operations during a period of continued international growth and organizational development. Backed by a major global investment firm, the company operates across multiple regions with integrated manufacturing, R&D, and commercial functions.

This role serves as the senior HR leader for the Japan organization, partnering closely with local management and global HR leadership to drive people strategy, organizational effectiveness, and HR operations.

Key Responsibilities

Act as a strategic HR Business Partner to local leadership and management teams Lead HR generalist functions including recruitment, employee relations, compensation, training, and organizational support Support workforce planning, succession planning, and employee development initiatives Ensure compliance with Japanese labor laws, company policies, and data privacy requirements Support budgeting, labor cost analysis, and HR reporting activities Partner with global HR leadership on implementation of HR policies, projects, and organizational initiatives Manage relationships with unions and support labor negotiations as required Lead and develop the local HR administration team Requirements Required Experience Strong HR generalist or HR leadership experience within multinational organizations Knowledge of Japanese labor laws and HR practices Experience supporting business leaders in a strategic HRBP capacity Fluent Japanese and English communication skills Strong analytical, organizational, and stakeholder management capabilities Preferred Experience Experience within pharmaceutical, manufacturing, chemical, or industrial environments Exposure to international or matrix organizations Experience with labor relations or union interactions Master’s degree or HR-related specialization is a plus Profile Hands-on and proactive with strong ownership mindset Able to balance operational HR execution with strategic business partnership Comfortable operating in a growing and evolving organization Strong communication and negotiation skills with ability to influence stakeholders Location & Work Style Iwaki, Fukushima Full-time position Benefits Why This Role Opportunity to lead HR for a growing international manufacturing organization High visibility role with direct interaction with both Japan leadership and global HR Broad scope covering HR strategy, operations, and organizational development Exposure to a globally expanding business backed by international investment support
