About the Role
We are seeking a seasoned technology person to spearhead the design, delivery, and continuous enhancement of IMPS/AEPS/NETC/CTS payment system applications at NPCI. This role is responsible for driving mission‑critical, real‑time payment platforms that demand exceptional levels of availability, resilience, security, and performance.
You will play a pivotal role in evolving national payment infrastructure while supporting ever‑increasing transaction volumes, regulatory expectations, and modern engineering practices including AI‑assisted development. Shape Your Team’s Impact Your team will build and operate high‑throughput, low‑latency IMPS/AEPS/NETC/CTS APIs and services that process millions of financial transactions daily.

Key Responsibilities
Lead end‑to‑end delivery of IMPS/AEPS/NETC/CTS application platforms from architecture and design through production deployment and support. Drive performance, scalability, resilience, and regulatory compliance enhancements for real‑time payment systems. Own API lifecycle management, integration standards, and service governance.
Leverage AI‑assisted code generation and development tools to improve developer productivity, code quality, and delivery velocity, while ensuring compliance with security and regulatory requirements. Establish best practices for responsible and governed use of AI in software engineering across the team. Mentor engineers, drive technical excellence, and promote modern engineering practices and automation.
What We’re Looking For Proven experience building and operating large‑scale, high‑availability payment or banking systems. Strong expertise in Java, distributed systems, and microservices architecture. Deep understanding of performance tuning, concurrency, fault tolerance, and resiliency patterns. Must‑have hands‑on experience using AI‑based code generation and developer productivity tools (e.
g., AI copilots, automated code assistants, AI‑driven test or code review tools) within enterprise‑grade systems. Ability to balance AI‑driven acceleration with strong engineering rigor, security, and regulatory compliance. Core Technologies Backend: Java (Spring Boot) Streaming: Apache Kafka Databases: Oracle, Cassandra, PostgreSQL, KDB+, YugabyteDB Frontend (Optional): React, TypeScript Tools & Infrastructure : Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, GitLab, Kong / NGINX Security & Reliability OAuth2, JWT, API rate limiting, observability using Prometheus, Grafana, ELK.
