JOB SUMMARY

This position requires a clinician with a high degree of knowledge, skills and competence in nursing to provide professional healthcare to Radiation Oncology patients as directed by a licensed physician and in accordance with policies and procedures. The clinician will evaluate and modify healthcare plans as related to specific patient care needs.

The clinician will serve as professional liaison between the patient and the healthcare team. The position includes the ability to perform the following: Prepares equipment and assists Physician during physical exams and medical procedures i.e. HDR, gynecological, ENT, catherizations for simulations and CT scans etc. Assists physician with all aspects of the patient’s initial consultation as well as weekly status checks, routine follow-up examinations, and any emergency visits that are needed.

Follows up on all diagnostic studies that are ordered including proper documentation and obtaining physician signature on test result. Responsible for acquiring test results and notifying said results on all interim reports to the physician and then to the chart. Manages and coordinates the care of patients in a defined care delivery model using the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Ensures appropriate patient consents and authorizations are obtained for medical treatment. Provides patient education, procedural instructions, and reinforces physician instructions in person and through telephone contact. Documentation of medications the patient is currently taking, and document any new medications prescribed by our physicians while under our care.

Maintains open communication with front desk, Infusion Team, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Chief Therapist and therapists as it applies to patient add ons, on-treatment breaks, and changes in treatments.
