Job description
In this role you will be responsible for:
Overseeing operation of the filtering and proportioning activities;
Executing inspection in filtering and proportioning including but not limited to filters, nitric acid delivery pumps, slurry and filtrate pumps, filtrate tanks, conveyor belts, and any abnormalities etc.;
Executing inspection on conveyer belts, idlers, trip wires, filter cake discharge chutes, return discharge chute, vacuum pumps;
Executing inspection on filter plates, filter scrapers, filter manifolds, rubber pipes on manifold, filter bags and distribution heads;
Monitoring vacuum and backwash pressure;
Monitoring process levels such as process water, filtrate tank, proportioning bin levels and mixing tank;
Sampling and analysing filter cake for moisture content;
Monitoring operation of the slurry distribution box and splitter box cylinder;
Monitoring condition of the distribution head and agitator;
Conducting manual SG of the slurry;
Replacing of filter bags;
Monitoring filter cake quality;
Flushing of filtrate tanks and ensure that the water is clean;
Washing of filter basins;
Monitoring the filter performance, slurry pump performance and quality of the slurry and conduct fault finding when challenges arise;
Unblocking of slurry delivery lines, pumps, reducers, transfer chute and splitter box;
Testing of safety equipment such as conveyor belt and filter trip wire;
Executing general housekeeping in area of work including but not limited to washing of equipment such as filter plates and scrapers, washing discharge chutes, splitter box, filter basin and mixing tank.
Monitoring the quality of filter plates (Leaks, acid wash, ultra sonic operation);
Supervising offloading of bentonite;
Monitoring and managing filter control valves and actuators (Process water, vacuum, backwash, slurry, rand water, filtrate, acid);
Assisting at grinding when necessary (barring of ball mill, TK101 opening of pump);
Reporting any deviation that will prevent production targets to be met to the supervisor;
Attending any deviation that will prevent production target from being achieved;
Assisting maintenance team during breakdowns/shutdowns;
Adhering to safety standards and regulations and applying Fatal Hazards Protocols (FHP’s) and Live Saving Behavior’s (LSB’s);
Maintaining good housekeeping at filtering; and
Performing any other duties assigned to by the supervisor.
About you
Grade 12;
Basic computer skills (SCADA)
Minimum of 12 months’ experience in the pelletizing and sintering process plant environment;
Ability to read, write, and communicate in English;
Ability to do fault finding and problem solving;
Medically fit in terms of OHSAct; and
Knowledge of HSEC Systems.
