About the role

Metro South Health is seeking an Advanced Health Worker (Identified First Nations) to join the MSAMHS Disaster Flood multi disciplinary team to support psychosocial post disaster recovery and strengthen community capability and capacity to increase disaster resilience for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

This role is grounded in cultural practices and connection to Country, culture and community as key sources of resilience. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team and in partnership with community leaders, peer workers and service providers to improve access to recovery supports through culturally appropriate pathways.

What you will do

Provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander primary health care practice within a multidisciplinary team, aligned to scope of practice and health care plans Create culturally safe spaces that support post disaster mental health recovery and wellbeing Engage respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families and communities, supporting continuity of care across the health care continuum Support people to navigate the health system and connect to the right services at the right time Contribute to quality improvement and research activities under guidance of senior staff Partner with other professionals to deliver education sessions, health promotion programs, workshops and community recovery activities Support First Nations peer workers, community leaders and stakeholders to strengthen access to recovery services Provide cultural support to other professionals to build cultural capability and assist them to navigate local customs and community protocols Strengthen community involvement in recovery and resilience building through ongoing engagement and relationship based practice What you will bring You will bring a strong community centred and culturally grounded practice, plus: Demonstrated local cultural knowledge of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander culture, community customs and protocols Sound knowledge of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care principles and protocols, with the ability to deliver services in a culturally safe way aligned to the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards Understanding of Queensland Health systems, with attention to detail in recording and managing data Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and build effective partnerships across government and non government stakeholders Strong communication skills and an understanding of health literacy Knowledge of the social and cultural determinants of health and the ongoing impacts of disaster on social and emotional wellbeing Ability to co facilitate education groups, programs, training and workshops for diverse audiences A genuine interest in strengthening psychosocial wellbeing and resilience for First Nations people in post disaster recovery contexts Eligibility and requirements Identified role This is an identified vacancy.
