Temporary Consultant Endocrinologist & General Physician
Job description
Our client is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Consultant Endocrinologist and General Physician to join our growing Department of General Internal Medicine. This post offers an exciting opportunity to deliver comprehensive specialist endocrine and diabetes care while contributing actively to the General Internal Medicine (GIM) acute unselected call roster.
You will work alongside a collaborative multidisciplinary team (MDT)—including clinical nurse specialists, dietitians, podiatrists, and allied health professionals—to deliver high-quality patient care in both acute hospital and integrated community healthcare settings.
Key Responsibilities
Lead specialized outpatient clinics and inpatient consultations for endocrinology, diabetes mellitus, thyroid diseases, lipid disorders, and metabolic health. General Internal Medicine: Take an active part in the acute General Internal Medicine call roster, managing unselected acute medical admissions. Service Development: Support the rollout of integrated care pathways in line with national models of care (e.
g., National Obesity and Diabetes Models of Care) across hospital and community sectors. Leadership & Governance: Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, multidisciplinary team meetings, and departmental administration.
Education
& Research: Provide clinical teaching, supervision, and mentoring to non-consultant hospital doctors (NCHDs), medical students, and allied staff. Essential: Irish Medical Council (IMC) Registration: Registration (or entitlement to immediate registration) on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland in the specialties of Endocrinology & Diabetes Mellitus and General (Internal) Medicine .
Clinical Experience: Demonstrable high-level expertise in general internal medicine and specialist endocrinology. Language Proficiency: Full proficiency in spoken and written English. Desirable: Proven track record in clinical audit, research, and quality improvement initiatives. Experience in working within integrated care models between primary and secondary care.
