Job description
Risk Selection: Reviews, evaluates, and underwrites new and renewal business by assessing risk quality, determining premium and coverage terms, obtaining approvals as needed, and presenting proposals to agents and brokers. Negotiates terms and conditions to secure profitable business within authority and underwriting guidelines.
Establishes, develops, and maintains successful relationships with Agents and Brokers to facilitate marketing of products, through responsive service, site visits, in person renewal meetings or enhanced knowledge of their customers businesses. Builds a strong market presence and maintains strong relationships with agents and brokers to support profitable growth, enhance market visibility, and strengthen long-term pipeline quality Manages a complex portfolio by analyzing performance, identifying growth and profitability opportunities, and executing targeted marketing and cross-marketing strategies to improve market share, diversification, and retention.
Participates in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to streamline workflows, improve underwriting efficiency, and enhance team performance. Provides technical and professional coaching to underwriters and account analysts, sharing expertise and contributing to the development of underwriting talent.
Serves as a resource for complex underwriting questions and provides feedback to management on employee progress and development needs. Partners with leadership on influencing underwriting standards Degree in Business or equivalent typically required A minimum of 2.5 years, typically 3 or more years, of progressive underwriting experience and/or other related experience CPCU or professional insurance designation preferred Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within scope of responsibility that includes competence with all phases and aspects of the underwriting process, and proficiency in the use of qualitative and quantitative tools and techniques Must demonstrate comprehension of complex technical underwriting issues and be capable of defining and implementing necessary underwriting and administrative processes/workflows to properly manage or administer those issues Proven track record of developing and underwriting profitable business
