Marlborough School Part-Time (25%) Upper School Jewish Literature Teacher Temporary/Exempt (Second Semester Only) Founded in 1889, Marlborough School is an independent girls' college-preparatory school for grades 7 through 12 located in Los Angeles, California. OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT: We are seeking a part-time, temporary teacher to join our English department, where they will instruct one Jewish Literature course in the Upper School Division. Beyond classroom teaching, this position offers the opportunity to be an active participant in the dynamic Marlborough community, and various opportunities to engage in school life.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach one section of Jewish Literature in the Second (Spring) Semester. Plan, prepare, and deliver academically sophisticated and pedagogically engaging lessons for the appropriate developmental level and course designation. Cultivate a safe, engaging learning environment for students.
Communicate regularly with parents, teachers, student services, deans, and other administrators. Adhere to Marlborough’s academic policies, guidelines, and expectations while modeling a commitment to student wellbeing. Participate in department and school activities contributing to a collaborative and mission-aligned school culture.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Arts in English, History, or Jewish Studies. A graduate degree is strongly preferred. A minimum of 1-3 years of experience teaching high school or at the university level. Demonstrate confidence in their subject matter and pedagogical expertise while staying dedicated to ongoing professional development and teaching innovation.
Passion for supporting the developmental needs of teenagers, with the ability to balance high expectations with a high level of support. Excellent communication, organizational, planning and interpersonal skills.
COMPENSATION
Competitive annualized salary ranging from $$20,000-$25,000.
