We’re excited to share that we are hiring a Summer Student to join our Operational Engineering team. NOTE: The start date is May 2027, and the length of the term is 4 months. Job Description: Reporting to the Manager, Operational Engineering, the successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team responsible for supporting issues on Alta.

Link’s transmission facilities in Alberta, which range in voltage class from 69kV to 500kV. The successful candidate will be providing support in one or more of the technical sub-groups such as transmission lines, civil, substations, operational technology, SCADA, protection and control (P&C), and compliance.

Responsibilities

Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders, including developers, municipalities, consultants, utilities, and landowners, to address inquiries and concerns related to activities near Alta. Link facilities. Support the review and processing of third-party proximity, crossing, encroachment, and development requests involving Alta.

Link transmission lines, substations, and associated infrastructure. Interpret and communicate Alta. Link’s standards, requirements, and safe work practices to third parties proposing activities near Alta. Link assets. Assist in the review of engineering drawings, site plans, crossing applications, and development proposals to identify potential impacts to Alta.

Link facilities and ensure compliance with company standards. Support technical assessments related to transmission line clearances, encroachments, ground disturbances, crossings, and land-use developments within Alta. Link rights-of-way. Coordinate with internal engineering, operations, project, and land teams to gather technical information and facilitate timely responses to stakeholder inquiries.

Assist in developing process improvements, guidelines, and technical documentation to enhance the efficiency and consistency of third-party reviews. Support engineering studies, data analysis, and reporting related to transmission asset management and Operational Engineering initiatives, as required. Demonstrate key behaviors and meet identified expectations outlined in our four cultural pillars – one team, continuous improvement, customer focus and personal accountability Requirements An Electrical Engineering student (ideally specializing in power systems) who has completed two or more years of study at a recognized University.

Knowledge of electrical transmission facilities (substations, lines, P&C and SCADA) would be an asset. Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills. Experience with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communications skills. Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage a wide variety of issues simultaneously and meet strict deadlines.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes. Proven track record of good attendance and job performance.
