Job description

We are looking for a Research Fellow to lead experimental efforts to investigate the 2D material-water interface. The role will focus on using femtosecond time-resolved photoemission electron microscopy (TR-PEEM) to investigate the electronic structure and ultrafast dynamics at the 2D material-water interface.

Key Responsibilities

Design and assemble an upgraded TR-PEEM apparatus, including upgrading the existing TR-PEEM apparatus to enable energy- and momentum-resolved measurements using a femtosecond vacuum-ultraviolet (VUV) light source operating at MHz repetition rates. Generate and characterize ultrashort laser pulses spanning the UV to near-IR (pump) and VUV (probe) regions and apply these pulses to time-resolved photoemission electron microscopy and momentum microscopy experiments.

Develop computer programs for automated data acquisition and data analysis. Perform data analysis and interpretation and prepare manuscripts for scientific publication and technical reports for funding agencies. Maintain laser systems and vacuum apparatus. Collaborate with research partners in the United States and the United Kingdom on theoretical simulations and sample fabrication.

Assist in the supervision of undergraduate student research assistants and postgraduate research students. Job Requirements: Ph.D. qualification degree in experimental physical chemistry or related field At least four years of relevant experience and strong track record in experimental physical chemistry or related field, chemical physics, condensed matter physics, or related disciplines Strong written and verbal communication skills Proficiency in designing and building new experimental setups, ultrafast optics and vacuum techniques, knowledge of computer programming for automated data acquisition and processing Excellent time management and organizational skills Ability to work independently, lead junior PhD students and undergraduate students in the day-to-day operations of the lab, engage with research collaborators Strong publication record in physical chemistry or related field Entry level candidates are welcome to apply We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
