As an Operating Engineer , you'll play a critical role in supporting the district energy plant that serves Louisiana State University . You'll work alongside a skilled operations team to operate, maintain, and optimize essential plant equipment that keeps an entire campus running safely and efficiently. What You'll Do
Operate and monitor boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and related equipment. Troubleshoot plant systems and help minimize equipment downtime. Perform preventative maintenance and support ongoing plant reliability initiatives Monitor plant performance and make recommendations to improve efficiency and reliability.
Assist with startup, shutdown, and emergency response activities. Maintain operational logs and utilize plant control systems to track equipment status and trends. Support maintenance and repairs of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Contribute to a strong safety culture where every team member is responsible for maintaining a safe workplace.
What We're Looking For
Required High School Diploma or GED. 3-10 years of experience in plant operations, maintenance, or troubleshooting of central heating and cooling systems. Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Valid Louisiana driver's license (or ability to obtain one). Preferred Technical training, certifications, or coursework related to power generation, HVAC, industrial maintenance, plant operations, or utilities. Experience with district energy, utility plants, combined heat and power (CHP), cogeneration, or large-scale HVAC systems.
Experience with plant automation, commissioning, controls, or energy management systems.
