About the Role
Reporting to the Service Supervisor or Service Manager, the Vehicle Painter is responsible for the spray painting and surface restoration of access equipment at AWD Australia's Prestons, NSW facility. The role involves preparing, priming, and finishing machines to company presentation standards prior to dispatch or hire.
The successful candidate will work closely with service technicians and yard staff to ensure equipment is turned around efficiently and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean, sand, remove rust and old coatings, and mask equipment surfaces in preparation for painting
- Mix paints to match OEM or company specifications and apply primers, base coats and finishes using spray guns
- Visually inspect finished surfaces, touch up defects or blemishes, and ensure all presentation standards are met prior to dispatch
- Maintain spray booth, spray guns, hoses, filters and related equipment in clean and operational condition
- Accurately complete job sheets, timesheets, paint usage logs and parts records
- Follow WHS protocols, use appropriate PPE, handle solvents and coatings safely, and manage hazardous material disposal in accordance with regulations
- Assist with material handling and the safe loading and unloading of machinery, including the use of forklifts or pallet jacks where licensed
- Support daily job scheduling coordination, ensuring machines are ready for technicians and all paperwork is completed promptly
- Maintain a clean, safe and well-organised workshop environment in accordance with WHS requirements
- Report job status, delays or issues to the line manager and complete any other duties as directed by management Skills
- Proficient in surface preparation, paint mixing, spray gun operation, masking and minor panel repair
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to delivering a high-quality paint finish
- Thorough understanding of WHS and OHS requirements, including safe handling of chemicals and hazardous materials
- Ability to work collaboratively with technicians, supervisors and yard staff in a busy service environment
- Basic computer skills for service reporting and job tracking
- Capable of receiving direction clearly and reporting job progress and status accurately
- Flexible and adaptable to changing work conditions and tasks Experience
- Minimum 1-2 years hands-on experience in industrial, automotive or plant/machinery spray painting
- Demonstrated experience with surface preparation, priming and finish coating using spray equipment
- Experience working with elevating work platforms (scissor lifts, boom lifts, telehandlers) is an advantage
- Familiarity with major EWP brands such as Dieci, Genie, JLG, Haulotte or Snorkel is highly desirable
- Prior experience in a workshop or service department environment preferred Qualifications
- Certificate III in Automotive Refinishing Technology or an equivalent qualification in spray painting or surface preparation (highly regarded)
- High-Risk Work Licence LF (forklift) desirable
- Elevated Work Platform (EWP) licence desirable
