Description Job Summary: . The Project Accountant supports the financial administration of assigned construction projects, including project billing, job cost review, subcontractor compliance, lien waivers, invoice processing, and project closeout. This position partners Project Management, Accounting, subcontractors, vendors, and owners to ensure project financial information is accurate, complete, and timely.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manage project accounting activities for assigned projects from setup through financial closeout.
- Review project invoices for accuracy, proper coding, authorization, tax treatment, and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate subcontractor billing, payment processing, retention, and lien waiver requirements.
- Monitor subcontractor and vendor compliance and resolve missing or incomplete documentation.
- Maintain accurate project commitments, change orders, budgets, cost codes, and related financial information.
- Monitor job costs and open commitments and work with Project Management to resolve discrepancies and close outstanding balances.
- Prepare owner billing packages and supporting documentation for Project Manager review and approval.
- Track owner billings, payments, retention, and related project accounting activity.
- Coordinate final billing and subcontractor retention releases during project closeout.
- Support out-of-state contractor, tax, withholding, and other project-specific compliance requirements.
- Research and resolve complex invoice, vendor, subcontractor, and project accounting issues.
- Communicate with Project Managers, subcontractors, vendors, and owners regarding project financial matters.
- Prepare and maintain project financial reports, projections, and supporting schedules.
- Participate in project and financial review meetings as needed.
- Maintain complete and accurate project accounting records and documentation.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Ability to work collaboratively with Project Management, Accounting, vendors, subcontractors, and owners.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- This position may require work outside of regular business hours, including evenings or weekends, to meet project timelines and deliverables.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred. 1–3 years of construction accounting, project accounting, billing, accounts payable, or related experience preferred.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in the construction industry, with some project coordination or management exposure. Licensing/Certification: Required: Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
