- Anywhere in Texas Employment Type: Part-Time, As-Needed We are seeking an experienced fire protection professional with a strong background in fire and life safety plan review to join Aoka. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring buildings are designed to protect occupants and first responders, while enjoying the flexibility of meaningful, project-based work. Why You'll Love This Role $40–$50 per hour, based on experience and qualifications Dollar-for-dollar company match up to 5% of employee contributions (subject to plan eligibility) Work remotely from anywhere in Texas Accept assignments based on project availability and your workload Help shape safer communities by ensuring buildings meet fire and life safety requirements Work alongside experienced engineers, code officials, fire marshals, and development professionals What You'll Do Review architectural and fire protection plans for compliance with the International Fire Code (IFC), International Building Code (IBC), applicable NFPA standards, and local amendments Evaluate fire sprinkler, standpipe, and fire pump submittals, including hydraulic calculations (NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, 14, and
- Review fire alarm and detection system plans, including device layout, notification, and battery calculations (NFPA
- Verify means of egress, including occupant load, exit capacity, travel distance, and exit signage and lighting Assess fire-resistance-rated construction, fire barriers, opening protectives, and penetration firestopping Review fire apparatus access, hydrant placement, fire flow, and special hazards such as hazardous materials, kitchen hood suppression, and smoke control Prepare clear, accurate review comments and required corrections through the Vertex. Plans platform Coordinate with designers, contractors, developers, and municipal staff (including fire marshals and building officials) to resolve review comments Utilize Vertex. Plans for project tracking, documentation, communication, and report submission Consistently meet established turnaround times while maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality Qualifications Active ICC or TCFP Fire Plans Examiner certification required Minimum of 2 years of experience in fire plan review Availability to work part-time on an as-needed basis remotely (no guaranteed minimum hours) Strong technical command of the IFC, IBC, and NFPA 13, 14, 72, and 101 Prior experience performing fire plan reviews for municipalities preferred Working knowledge of Texas fire code adoption and local fire marshal requirements About Aoka Aoka is a third-party municipal services provider serving federal, state, and local governments with code compliance, inspections, and consulting.
